I'm toasted baby
and you...?

I know, it may looks ordinary and nothing special than a toasted bread stuffing with variants flavors of jam. What's else? Just let me introduced you why these night snacks being favorite in my country. First, it named Roti Bakar Bandung which in translate Toasted Bread in Bandung style. So, what is Bandung style? Actually it's just a name of capital city of West Java province in Indonesia. A beautiful city, it's recommendation. If you ever another famous Indonesian dish named Empek-Empek Palembang that I ever had post, you'll noticed there's also a city name. I don't know why Bandung was inserted, although left on mind, maybe it's the origins of these snack. It becomes a signature for these snack, which began to sold from evening until midnight in its own booth. Next, the outside texture of these rectangular loaf was looks like a harmonica (although nowadays we can found these mold) so when it get toasted, it gotten the stronger lines. The way how it toasted are using flat iron plate, like we used to know on Teppanyaki, a Japanese dish. So when it already hot, the bread which buttered in each side before, is cooked until looks golden brown. Definitely best eaten while it's hot because you can enjoy the tasty butter melted in bread, the softness and juicy flavorful stuffing. As you can see in pics, the rectangular shape of the bread can be divided into two parts, which every part would be cut to made it easier to picked by hand and eat. And for stuffing, jam such as blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, kaya, until the customer fave like peanut and chocolate. Mixed flavor in same bread are also available, cost more pricey.

So, if we are familiar to eat toasted bread on restaurant or cafe menu, which sure it has better quality, softer bread, while some are homemade too and have more amazing stuffing and topping, what these bread had to satisfy the expectation? It's only cook in street booth, full buttered and jam, not yet counting the calories you may wondered? Well, how it's sold and placed to be a street snack and all factor I listed before, it just about we getting the euphoria. You know, a kind of excitement feeling when you found a night food booth, enjoy the smell, looks and stuffing like that. Also, it's nice to wait and see the seller do his 'martial' times to execute the bread on flat iron plate, giving his attention and lots of love, wrapped or packaged it then we hold the warmness to finally eat it in togetherness (or alone). I could say, the power of street snack, the different feeling than you already get it ready to eat in cafe or restaurant. Those expectation are like putting an enjoyment when we bought it, bring it home, share in togetherness. Yet, for some people maybe it's just nothing but I guess it's an pleasure excitement.

Since this is a sunny Sunday, why not adding dark chocolate ganache to be extra topping? I know less is better but more is luck right? :D I also made Ice Coffee and a cold Orange Squash to joining the party.
